El nacimiento de este proyecto obedece a la común preocupación compartida con un sector de la industria de bebidas, los sectores de salud y de educación, así como de la sociedad mexicana, por el sobrepeso y la obesidad presente en los menores de edad en el país, con el fin de desarrollar un proyecto que provea de información objetiva sobre las características del ambiente obesogénico que prevalece en las escuelas primarias del país y en su contexto próximo. El libro es el resultado de esa investigación y refleja el estado del arte sobre los factores que inciden en el sobrepeso y obesidad en la población escolar. Todos los argumentos que se encuentran a lo largo de este texto están dirigidos a proveer una información sólida para el tomador de decisiones, ya sea en el campo de la salud o de la educación, incluso del productor, relacionado con la ganancia de peso en el escolar. El texto está dirigido también a todo aquel profesional que esté interesado en entender y estudiar el fenómeno ecológico de la obesidad infantil y del adolescente.
